LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Rapper Jay-Z climbed to the top of the Grammy nominees on Tuesday, hitting 83 people who put him ahead of former Beatle Paul McCartney.

Jay-Z’s three most recent nominees came in the form of collaborations with other experts. He also appeared on DMX’s “Bath Salts” and Kanye West’s “Jail”, which also led Jay-Z to accept West’s song “Donda.”

Jay-Z has won all 23 Grammys, including the award for best rap album in 1999 and a tribute to the song “Crazy in Love” with his wife, Beyonce, in 2004 and “Empire State of Mind” by Alicia Keys in 2011.

Earlier this year, Beyonce wrote a Grammy Award winning streak with a 28-year-old woman in her career.

McCartney’s Grammy nominees rose to 81 Tuesday with two votes for the best rock album “McCartney III” and the best rock song “Find My Way.”

Producer Quincy Jones, who was linked to Jay-Z in the run-up to Tuesday’s election, has won 80 Grammys in his lifetime.

Grammys’ winners, highly regarded in the music industry, will be announced Jan. 31 at a ceremony in Los Angeles to be unveiled on CBS.
