The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director – Labour Relations and Business Success, the Human Resource Advisor is the first point of contact for leaders and employees on human resource related issues and provides Tier2 support for all other employee enquiries. In collaboration with the Strategic Human Resource Business Partners, they will be supporting diverse client portfolios within a fast-paced environment.
This role is responsible for balancing business needs with the interpretation and application of SAIT HR policies/procedures, collective agreements and related provincial and federal legislation. Primary responsibilities for this role would include job classification and compensation, recruitment, job descriptions, labour & employee relations including investigations and grievances, performance management and HR project work.
The Role
- Provide guidance to leaders, Human Resources colleagues, and other employees on the interpretation and administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreements at SAIT.
- Provide advice and consultation on all employee’s life cycles, including creating and updating legally bounding templates used for employee changes (including employee change letter creation).
- Respond to internal and external client inquiries as a subject matter expert and provide Tier2 support for Fresh tickets.
- Understand people management trends in the different departments and contribute to knowledge management and Human Resources success.
- Support leaders with non-medical accommodation requests; provide guidance and consultation to manage complex cases.
- Manage the intake, problem-solving, investigation, and step one grievance processes along with its reports to support and guide leaders (including Union reps) during disciplinary actions up to and including terminations.
- Operational partner on organization and position management, provides advice and consultation to leaders during classifications and re-classifications processes and provides recommendations to clients on salary equity considerations.
- Responsible for the contract optimization project implementation, acting as a key resource for internal consultation in continuous improvement and innovation efforts and an SME for leaders’ consultation on the processes.
- Participate in and/or lead initiatives/projects to support the Human Resources team and their clients (i.e., Collective Agreement negotiation – compensation and negotiation projects).
- Supporting managers in the creation and classification of job descriptions.
- Support the success of the Human Resource Pods, including cross-collaboration across Human Resources.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and promotion of SAIT HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Align and support Human Resouces’s Mission, Vision, and Values into daily responsibilities and the
- FIRST principles in the advice provided
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum
- Degree or Post-Secondary Diploma in relevant area (HR, Business, Mgt Administration)
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in a HR generalist or HR advisor role, experience in a unionized environment is a definite asset
- Preferred
- CPHR certification

Salary range: $63,000 – $88,000
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
