Liberty’s Hugh Freeze has secured a new contract, exceeding $ 4 million a year, sources said


Liberty has secured a new contract with Hugh Freeze that could make him one of the highest paid non-Power 5 coaches in college football, sources told ESPN Tuesday night.

The university is expected to announce the new contract on Wednesday. Sources told ESPN that the total Freeze revenues could exceed $ 4 million a year for the entire contract period and beyond the 2028 season.

The new Freeze deal in Liberty will be even more significant or similar to what five SEC coaches are making.

In his third season at Liberty, Freeze has the Flames 7-4 heading into the final of his season on Saturday against the Saints. He led Liberty to an excellent 10-1 record last year and number 17 in the Associated Press final.

Liberty is one of two teams in NCAA history to win a plate game in their first full months on FBS. Flames won No. 9-place Coastal Carolina 37-34 in extra time in the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl last season. It was Liberty’s first victory over the FBS enemy worldwide. And in the first season of Freeze in 2019, Liberty beat Georgia Southern 23-16 in the Cure Bowl.

Liberty has been involved in independent football competitions since he climbed the FBS rankings in 2018, but has attended Conference USA from the 2023 season.

Freeze also received an increase and upgrade last year which took him to the 2026 season and increased his salary to more than $ 3 million a year.

As Ole Miss’s coach, Freeze led the rebels to 19 defeats in the 2014-15 season, the 2015 season which was won by the first Sugar Bowl victory since 1970. about inappropriate phone calls on his university-sponsored phone.
