Russia wants major technology companies to set up local offices by 2022

Russia is growing exponentially with the demand that foreign technology companies set up trading centers within its boundaries. Reuters he says The country’s telecom operator Roskomnadzor is call Thirteen foreign and mainly American companies to secure Russia’s presence by 2022 in order to comply with the law that came into effect on July 1st. The list contains well-known technical names such as Apple, Google, Meta (Facebook), Telegraph, TikTok and Twitter.

The law requires local offices to be “internet companies” with more than 500,000 users every day. Some of the companies already have offices, however, it is not clear what causes the government to exist. Those who appear to be in breach of the law may be banned or banned for their advertising, data collection and money transfer.

As you can imagine, the worry is that Russia could use the law to gain control over those companies and their content. Russia said fought Apple several times, for example, plus the penalty for what was predicted using the App Store control – this law may empower authorities. The move could also help Russia compel companies to ban what the government considers inappropriate, such as television articles that support political opposition to Putin’s government.

Advertising makes things even more difficult. Russia is an important market other companies may not always be able to lose but respecting the request could also mean allowing for review and violation of certain rights. Companies may need to make decisions that are painful regardless of the consequences.
