The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum will close for six months in 2022

The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum has not been reopened since the epidemic began, but it is already planning to close its doors – if for any other reason. The Washington Post reports Smithsonian is to close its main National Mall for at least six months of renovation starting March 28, 2022. The move will maintain the “continued security” of visitors as the museum completes the construction of its new western suburbs.

The closure is part of a first phase of a seven-year restructuring that is expected to cost $ 1 billion. The Smithsonian is miraculously closing to keep some of the museums open at the time, including the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia (which remains open). Some of these collections have moved to the most appropriate museums currently in existence, such as the Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of the American Indian.

Waiting can be beneficial. Eight western wing displays are to be set up when the museum reopens, including the “One World Connected” (above) and the Wright brothers’, exploration of planets and Moon.

Some parts of the renovation are still far from complete. The museum will begin “removing” the eastern wings in March and will not complete renovations until sometime in 2025. in the past – even if you came back recently.
